Amila Wijayawardhana, CDOT External Sector Statistics Advisor, conducted a two-week technical assistance mission to support Papua New Guinea’s Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) in strengthening external sector statistics. The mission focused on advancing the reconciliation of international trade data between the BPNG and the National Statistics Office, improving the compilation of the International Investment Position (IIP), finalizing the business requirements for the International Transactions Reporting System (ITRS), and enhancing the balance of payments compilation framework. The authorities reached agreement on methodologies for reconciling trade statistics, progressed in compiling and validating IIP data, finalized ITRS system requirements, and committed to publication plans and data-sharing arrangements to support sustained improvements in external sector statistics.
