In consultation with the Ministry of Finance (MOF) of Malaysia, the IMF's Statistics Department (STA) organized a Government Finance Statistics (GFS) and Public Sector Debt Statistics (PSDS) implementation workshop in Langkawi, Malaysia during May 27 – 31, 2024. The workshop continued to support improving fiscal statistics for evidence-based fiscal policymaking and surveillance. More specifically, the workshop supported the Malaysian macroeconomic statistics compilers to assess and classify statutory bodies (SBs) and state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and to review the Classification of Expenditure by Functions of Government (COFOG) while also deepening COFOG data to the second level.
