October 29 – November 5: External Sector Statistics

Amila Wijayawardhana, CDOT External Sector Statistics Advisor conducted a duty station‑based technical assistance (TA) mission to the Kiribati National Statistics Office (KNSO) to strengthen the compilation and dissemination of external sector statistics. The mission focused on supporting the transition from annual to quarterly balance of payments and international investment position compilation. As a key outcome, the authorities successfully compiled and submitted quarterly BOP and IIP data for the first two quarters of 2025 and enhanced reporting to international databases. The mission further strengthened estimation methods, identified remaining data gaps, and laid out next steps toward institutionalizing sustainable quarterly ESS practices.
